Big Rock by Lauren Blakely - Review

It's not just the motion of the ocean, ladies. It's definitely the SIZE
of the boat too.

And I've got both firing on all cylinders. In fact, I have ALL the right assets. Looks, brains, my own money, and a big c*&k.

You might think I'm an a*&hole. I sound like one, don’t I? I'm hot as sin, rich as heaven, smart as hell and hung like a horse.

Guess what? You haven't heard my story before. Sure, I might be a playboy, like the NY gossip rags call me. But I’m the playboy who’s actually a great guy. Which makes me one of a kind.

The only trouble is, my dad needs me to cool it for a bit. With conservative investors in town wanting to buy his flagship Fifth Avenue jewelry store, he needs me not only to zip it up, but to look the part of the committed guy. Fine. I can do this for Dad. After all, I’ve got him to thank for the family jewels. So I ask my best friend and business partner to be my fiancĂ©e for the next week. Charlotte’s up for it. She has her own reasons for saying yes to wearing this big rock.

And pretty soon all this playing pretend in public leads to no pretending whatsoever in the bedroom, because she just can’t fake the kind of toe-curling, window-shattering orgasmic cries she makes as I take her to new heights between the sheets.

But I can’t seem to fake that I might be feeling something real for her.

What the fuck have I gotten myself into with this…big rock?

BIG ROCK is a standalone, dirty romance novel written from the guy’s POV by NYT Bestselling author Lauren Blakely…

This book was a first for me by Lauren Blakely, and let me tell you it will not be the last.  This book is amazing - I love reading from the Guy's POV. However, I don't tend to really like a single POV - I used to, but nowadays I want to know what the hero and heroine of any story is thinking at times.

I absolutely loved this book. Spencer Holiday is a cocky, arrogant alpha-male and I loved getting into every inch of his dirty, funny mind. This guy is simply amazing - true, he gets himself into sticky situations, but it sure was hilarious watching him get himself out of them.

I loved Charlotte. She was simply adorably sweet. I loved how sassy and snarky she was, whilst sexily tormenting Spencer at the same time. The chemistry between these two were scorching. I loved every charged, playful scene. However, I wish we could have had some sort of insight into Charlotte's mind.

Oh, I also loved the texts and memory-lane scene at the end. It was simply beautiful!

P.S. Lauren Blakely, by any chance is Katharine's supposed to be like Tiffany's?

Appealed by Emma Chase - Review

When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the
awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate - and prized - parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Christian Louboutins.

Brent has never let the loss of his leg in a childhood accident affect his ability to lead a fulfilling life. He sets high goals–and then he reaches them.

And now he has his sights set on Kennedy.
**
When Kennedy looks at Brent Mason, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue-worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell.

She’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore - she’s a DC prosecutor with a long winning streak behind her. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case and she thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.

But things aren’t exactly working out that way.

Because every fiery exchange has her wondering if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. Each argument and objection only makes him want her more. In the end, Brent and Kennedy may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.

APPEALED is a sexy, humorous romance about first crushes, second chances and the final verdict of the heart.

Emma Chase is fast becoming one of my favourite Author's and her Legal Brief Series is why. I fell in love right at the start of this series, and I fell harder in love after being introduced to each hero: The Cowboy, The  Knight and The Prince.

Brent Mason totally stole my heart in this book - this Prince was simply amazing. I totally admired this smart-ass. I loved how life didn't get him down. He approached life with a zest which was inspiring, especially due to what happened to him. Speaking of his accident, I would have liked a bit more background knowledge on that. Just to find out exactly what happened.

I loved Kennedy. I loved her take-charge, no-prisoner's attitude. This woman was a BAMF! Seriously, she was. She was kick-ass. I loved her. Kennedy was somebody I could admire. I loved how she didn't treat Brent differently because of his accident. I loved how strong-willed and stubborn she was. I even love her name. It's elegant, classy but also powerful and distinct. (I might have to steal this name for a future child - after  Harper and Evelyn ;) ).

Please say that with that special Epilogue we get a new series featuring the children? I would love a best-friends to romance novel with Robert and Vivian. That would be awesome right?

This book only took me a few hours to read and I was sad to not only finish this book, but what I'm assuming is the last in this series. (Queue tears and weeping!)

P.S. Jake Becker's my fave - this shiny knight stole my heart with his family ways and has yet to return it. Emma Chase could I steal him from Chelsea? Please? It would be much appreciated.

Sebring by Kristen Ashley - Review

Nick Sebring has issues. Born feeling like an outsider in his own
family, growing up under the shadow of a brother who could do anything, Nick isn’t that great of a guy. But when this culminates with Nick lashing out to hurt his brother through the woman he loves, Nick turns inward and makes some decisions about the man he intends to be.

And as he does this, he falls in love and truly learns the man that he’s grown to be.

When his love is murdered right before Nick’s eyes, Nick knows he has to avenge her. He knows how he’s going to avenge her. And he has no qualms using Olivia Shade to exact that vengeance.

Olivia Shade has grown up on the outside of her family too. Her problem is that they don’t want her outside. They want her all the way in, right under their thumbs. She pays the price for seeking escape and learns her lesson—she’ll never see a dawn where she wakes up free.

Then she meets Nick Sebring, and even as she fights it, the hope that died years ago starts to blossom. She can find love. She can have a man of her own. She can be happy. She can be free.

Olivia hopes while Nick schemes.

However, as Nick peels back the layers of all that is Olivia Shade, he finds something surprising. He understands its fragility. He falls in love with its beauty. He seeks to protect it.

But he forgets to protect his Livvie from one thing: Nick Sebring.

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH! It was simply elegant and amazing. I was wondering, and slightly worried, how Nick would avenge Hettie's death whilst falling in love and lying to Olivia. I was gearing myself up to heartbreak before reading it. But alas, Kristen Ashley did not disappoint; the whole plot was handled beautifully.

I really loved Livvie in this book. I could connect to her. She was so brave, but vulnerable. She was amazing. How she put up with her family, whilst they plotted and schemed and abused, I have no clue how she did it. She's so strong. Livvie is one of those kick-ass heroines that I wish was real so we could be friends.

Nick. Nicky. Sigh. I loved this redeemable asshole whole-heartedly. I felt his pain. His confusion regarding his mission and feelings for Olivia. His turmoil. Nick was so confident, he knew what and who he wanted and nothing, not even himself, would get in his way. I really admire Nick. How he was able to compartmentalise and separate Olivia from the Shades, and ultimately his goals of destruction. My heart literally swooned during the video clip of the mountains. (I want my own Nicky. No, correction, I need my own Nicky. Please Kristen Ashley? I'd be forever grateful ;) ).

This book was simply amazing. This whole series is amazing, and I am again sad to see another of Kristen Ashley's series ended. I can't wait to see what else is coming from her in the future.

(P.s. Deacon will always be my fave, not just out of KA's heroes, but he's my ultimate book-boyfriend <3).

The Score (Off Campus #3) by Elle Kennedy - ARC Review

He knows how to score, on and off the ice...

Allie Hayes is in crisis mode. With graduation looming, she still doesn’t have the first clue about what she's going to do after college. To make matters worse, she’s nursing a broken heart thanks to the end of her longtime relationship. Wild rebound sex is definitely not the solution to her problems, but gorgeous hockey star Dean Di-Laurentis is impossible to resist. Just once, though, because even if her future is uncertain, it sure as heck won’t include the king of one-night stands.

It’ll take more than flashy moves to win her over...

Dean always gets what he wants. Girls, grades, girls, recognition, girls…he’s a ladies man, all right, and he’s yet to meet a woman who’s immune to his charms. Until Allie. For one night, the feisty blonde rocked his entire world—and now she wants to befriends? Nope. It’s not over until he says it’s over. Dean is in full-on pursuit, but when life-rocking changes strike, he starts to wonder if maybe it’s time to stop focusing on scoring…and shoot for love.

OMG! OMG! OMG! I've literally just finished this and rushed on here to write my review. I'm reeling!!! That ending, I suspected something was going on, but not that. And the horrible twist. My heart literally broke. I was hoping he would get his own story (insert sobbing)...

Anyway, I loved this book. When I first heard that Allie was going to be Dean's heroine, not going to lie, I was slightly sceptical. I was one of the ones who wanted Dean to have hate-sex with Sabrina turn to love story, but Elle Kennedy proves with this book that no matter what we want, we should just trust her brilliance. 'Cause that's what this book was - absolutely brilliant. I thoroughly loved and enjoyed this book. When I got the email saying I received an ARC, I squealed, then pounced on this book like a kangaroo.

Dean. Sigh. Little-Dean. Bigger sigh. I absolutely loved this guy. Both guys (insert blushing and winking). This little man-whore had more depth to him, was incredibly intelligent, and just fun. I loved his approach to life. His zest for life was extraordinary - I loved how nothing ever bothered him and he did what he wanted, regardless what everyone thought. I especially loved that bathroom scene - sexy, but mostly hilarious. I loved how he rolled with things. I loved when he coached the kiddies (my ovaries may or may not have exploded). I just loved Dean (but I think Garrett will always hold a soft spot in my heart and be my fave).

Allie. Allie-cat. I loved this little DQ (a drama queen using Logan's acronyms). She was fun, but serious at the same time. I loved how she just accepted Dean as he is. I also loved how open, and surprisingly adventurous in bed. Not going to lie I didn't expect that. However, regardless of how much I admired and like Allie, her slut-shaming towards herself was slightly annoying, but that's just because I believe sex is not a bad thing, and neither is going after it, or having it casually. I understand Allie isn't wired that way, but it just bugged me a bit.

I absolutely loved this book. And CANNOT wait for Tucker's book. It's going to be sooooo good. I can tell by the ending (insert fan-girling, squealing, etc.)

Built by Jay Crownover - Review

The first in the new SAINTS OF DENVER series from NYT
bestselling author of the MARKED MEN series, Jay Crownover

Sometimes you have to tear everything down to build something new…

Sayer Cole is frozen inside. At least, that’s what it’s felt like for as long as she can remember. She’s yet to let anyone past her icy exterior – and the one guy she thinks might melt her heart couldn’t possibly be interested in someone so uptight.

Rough, hard and hot-as-hell, Zeb Fuller has rebuilt his life and his construction business since protecting his family sent him to jail all those years ago. His elegant client, Sayer, makes him feel like a Neanderthal in denim, but despite the many hints that he’s been dropping to get to know her better, she seems oblivious to his charms.

Just as things finally start to heat up, Zeb’s past comes back to haunt him and he needs Sayer’s professional help to right a wrong and to save more than himself. As these opposites dig in for the fight of their lives, fire and ice collide in an unstoppable explosion of steam…

I absolutely loved this book. I was so stoked to find out Jay Crownover was writing a spin-off to her Marked Men Series and this first instalment did not disappoint.

For most of the book I had a hard time connecting with Sayer the heroine of the story - yes, she was closed off and emotionally unavailable. I just didn't really know how to connect to somebody who is completely different to me in personalities. I didn't want to give up though as I absolutely loved Zeb, and I'm glad I didn't. I held on, and I know why. Although Sayer is cold like ice, inside she's boiling with heat, colours, passion. Just over half-way through the book I started to connect with Sayer. She is incredibly brave and admirable. I loved her in the end.

Zeb. I love this guy whole-heartedly. I think he steals my top-spot from Rome now. He was just such a good guy. I couldn't not fall for him - with the way he protects and cares for everybody that he loves and cares about. The determination to rectify and fix his past mistakes was so incredibly swoon-worthy. I just loved this guy.

I'm not going to say much about Hyde as I don't want to spoil it, but this guy stole my heart too. I loved him immediately and cannot wait to see if he gets his own book sometime in the future.

I loved seeing the whole old-gang, but I loved Poppy the most. How vulnerable and brave she was at the same time. I admire Poppy and everything she's been through. I adore this broken little dove. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Poppy - I hope she finds her own happily ever after with a great guy.

Bet In The Dark/Bet On Us by Rachel Higginson - Review

All Ellie Harris wanted was a life of her own.

In a shortsighted decision, she follows her high school boyfriend to college, only to get cheated on and then dumped. And to add insult to injury her overprotective family is suddenly clinging to her again, fighting to control every part of her life.

Bad luck follows her hasty decision and when her roommate steals her identity and leaves town, Ellie is left to clean up a gigantic mess.

Fin Hunter insists Ellie owes him seven thousand dollars from an online poker game and he is determined to get it from her. Determined to keep her family out of her life, Ellie agrees to work for Fin in his illegal online poker operation. He’s given her six weeks to pay off the debt.

Soon sparks are flying between them and the only thing keeping her from falling for him is the debt she still owes and the money she doesn’t have.

At the end either Ellie will have to pay the mistaken debt or bet in the dark that her feelings for Fin will be worth more than the money.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

This book was amazing - right from the beginning it had me hooked. I need more NA books like this one! There are no words to describe how much I loved this book.

Ellie has recently broken up with her cheating boyfriend, has the worst roommate in the world (who's stolen and sold all her furniture, and left her with $7,000 in debt in an illegal poker game, under her name), and now has a 'hitman' claiming she owes him money. Life is not going very well for Ellie. Even though it isn't her debt (she's living on Ramen noodles, she cannot afford to gamble her loose change away), she starts working for Fin to make up for the lost money. Ellie is one of them heroines I wish was real - she's amazing, strong and independent, and I just know we would be good friends. Ellie is funny and stubborn. I really admire her.

'I felt tiny in his embrace, itty-bitty compared to his long, muscled frame. But at the same time we fit together easily, like pieces of the same puzzle.'

Fin. I loved Fin. He is swoon worthy. I want my own Fin. Pretty please? Fin was caring, stubborn, loving. I absolutely love him. I loved how he pretended that he thought the debt was Ellie's just so she would keep working for him and spending time with him. I loved how fiercely loyal and protective he was of his family. And his "spies".

'He leaned in to kiss the sweet spot just under my ear. He groaned as if frustrated and then whispered so quietly I almost didn't hear him, "I'm going to keep you."'

I loved her big 'overprotective' brothers. I cannot wait for Beckett's book. But I also want Fin's friends to get books also. This whole book was amazing. I cannot wait for more from this series.

'"It seemed I was always falling for you, since that first time in your apartment when you thought I was a drug dealer. And I just kept falling, harder, faster... forever, until finally I was in love with you and there was nothing else I could do about it... And will you let me help you fall in love with me too?"'

The Five Stages of Falling in Love by Rachel Higginson - Review

Elizabeth Carlson is living in the pits of hell- also known as grief.

Her husband of eight years, the father of her four children and the love of her life, died from cancer. Grady's prognosis was grim, even from the start, but Liz never gave up hope he would survive. How could she, when he was everything to her?

Six months later, she is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life and get the kids to school on time. Both seem impossible. Everything seems impossible these days.

When Ben Tyler moves in next door, she is drowning in sorrow and pain, her children are acting out, and the house is falling apart. She has no time for curious new friends or unwanted help, but Ben gives her both. And he doesn't just want to help her with yard work or cleaning the gutters. Ben wants more from Liz. More than she's capable of ever giving again.

As Liz mourns her dead husband and works her way through the five stages of grief, she finds there's more of her heart to give than she thought possible. And as new love takes hold, she peels away the guilt and heartache, and discovers there's more to life than death.

So, even though this book has been released for nearly a year I've only just read it. When it first came out, everybody raved about it and I can see why, but at that time I just was not in the mood for it and did not think I'd really like the book. And after reading it, I can say I liked it, but I still don't think this is my kind of book, and I know why. It's not the book, or the characters (much), it's me. I'm a young adult who is after fluffy or passionate romances - and at this point in my life I have not really experienced loss and I've never been in love, thus I couldn't really relate. That's not to say the book is bad, because it isn't. I loved it. I teared up so many times (which is an accomplishment, trust me - the only other books I cried at were Harry Potter when my fave characters died)!

This book begins with a little sweet last moment between Grady and Lizzie, and from there it was tears-and-tissues-ahoy! I lost count of the many times I nearly cried at this book. At the grieving kids, the grieving family, the grieving lover. I was confronted with all these different types of grief that I have not experienced in my life yet, and it absolutely gutted me.

This book is so incredibly special. It's about life after death. It's about family. Love.

I was with Lizzie all the way - at points she slightly annoyed me, but again that's most likely because I couldn't really relate to her at all times. I loved how she tried to cope and keep her family going during the difficult time. How they learnt to accept Ben as the new man in their life. How during all this devastation and grief, the family was still the core of the story, with their humorous shenanigans.

Ben was a darling in this book. He was so sweet and understanding. He didn't try to replace Grady as he knew that was impossible; he just tried to coexist beside him. I fell in love with Ben in this book right along side Lizzie, but I also fell in love with Grady, who we didn't get to know, through his creation of his wife's dream house, his children, the knick knacks of his that were given to the kids.

This book was remarkable. They are no words for it. Even writing this review I'm tearing up.

Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy #1) by Ilona Andrews - Review

#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a
brand new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire…

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

The first book of the year I finished is Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews. After reading the Kate Daniels series I could not wait to begin another Ilona Andrews book. However, after reading it, I jumped straight on google/goodreads to find out when the next one would be out... 2017? Really guys? You hooked me into this great book and world, and are now testing my patience (which I lack).

Okay, slight rant over.

Anyway, Ilona Andrews does not disappoint in this first instalment of her new series. I'm not going to lie but I like this book much better than the Kate Daniels series - don't ask me why, I don't know... But this first book was kick-ass!

Nevada is similar yet different to Kate in many ways. She's an investigator, but mostly she's a loyal and loving daughter and provider for her family, taking over after her father. Nevada is used to ousting cheating spouses, so when she's ordered by her Boss to bring in a homicidal, psychopathic pyrokinetic, it's slightly out of her league. She joins up forces with Mad Rogan, who is after his younger cousin, an accomplice to the pyrokinetic.

Mad Rogan. Sigh. This guy is just so incredibly badass, and regardless of what Nevada says, he's a good guy deep down. He's loyal. Helpful. Charming. This guy is just incredibly swoon-worthy (and now I have to wait two years to get my next fill... Boo, that sucks!)

This book is just full of action, slight romance and just general badassness. This book rocks. You guys need to go read this if you haven't already!

MY 2015 TOP READS

HAPPY NEW YEAR FELLOW READERS, BLOGGERS AND AUTHORS!

2015 was a good year for me as a reader - I finally started a blog (this years resolution is to be less sporadic with it) and I started university studying English (woop!)

So, to kick off the NEW YEAR I'm going to post my TOP TEN READS of 2015! It was really hard to narrow down, but I'm happy with my choices...

In tenth place we have...
Grayson's Vow
Even though this book released back in September, I have only just gotten round to reading it these past few weeks (Christmas break from university = major reading binge).

I absolutely loved this book - I loved Grayson the dragon, and Kira the Witch. I loved the setting. I just really loved this book; everybody needs to just go read it. Right now. Seriously.

In ninth place we have...
Fugly
This book was so poignant and had such a deep meaningful message. I loved this story so much.

I loved how confident Lily was with her body and face - she may have a unique face, but she doesn't take any crap because of it. She was incredibly empowering and inspiring.

Maxwell. Sigh. I loved this complicated fellow.

Eighth place goes to...
Ride Steady
Anybody who knows me knows of my love of Kristen Ashley and her books, and this one did not disappoint.

I loved Joker and Carissa. I loved how Joker was with Carissa's baby. How he protected and provided for her.

I loved this book - go read it guys.

Seventh place belongs to...
Rhythm, Chord and Malykhin

I loved this book! It was amazing - my new book favourites this past year has been 'rock romance'. I loved Mariana Zapata's Under Locke (MC romance) so was psyched when I found out she had released this. My fave two book sub-genres, by one of my fave authors.

This book was amazing. A sweet, slightly angsty-read. You guys need to read this!

The sixth place goes to...
Reaper's Fall
I love Joanna Wylde. I love the Reapers MC. I loved Painter. Sigh.

Painter redeemed himself for me in Reapers Stand, and so I couldn't wait for his book. He didn't disappoint. I absolutely loved this book.

I loved Melanie. Painter. Their daughter. The club. This book is just awesome! Go read it.

Fifth place goes to...
Transcending Darkness

Weeks, and I do mean weeks, after reading this book it is still in my mind. This book was freaking amazing! It literally blew my mind.

I loved this book. I loved Juliette. I loved how resilient she was. How she didn't expect anything. (I think this book is in need of a re-read - soon!) Killian stole my heart in this book. Guys, seriously go read!

Fourth place goes to...
Hero
This book was absolutely amazing. I freaking loved this book. I loved Alexa. I loved Caine. Sigh.

This book is a not just a must, but a must re-read (I'm going to go do that - soon!)

Third place belongs to...
Moonlight on Nightingale Way

As much as I loved Caine and Hero, Logan stole my heart in this book, also released by Samantha Young. She's a kick-ass author. Go check out all her books. Seriously.

Logan. Grace. I loved these two. Go check it out. Right now. Please?

In second place is the great...
Sustained
Jake Becker. Sigh.  This guy was amazing. He literally stole my heart, just the way he was with the kids. I want a Jake Becker. No, correction - I need a Jake Becker!

This story is such a good, fluffy, romance. If you liked Worth the Fall by Claudia Connor, you'll love this!

AND FIRST PLACE GOES TO...
THE DEAL by Elle Kennedy
This book is freaking amazing. A fluffy NA - who woulda thunk it? This book is just so good!

Garrett and Hannah had me in stitches, laughing my ass of at their shennanigans and banter. Garrett is my number one fave book boyfriend from the College Sports Romance!

So, that's my top ten! Can you see the trend? Evidently I have a thing for tortured heroes. When I set out doing this I didn't realise how hard it would be to decide. Anyway, these books you don't want to miss. Add them to your TBR and get reading!
